Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about copying, pasting, and why your text sometimes looks weird. Updated .
Using it
Is Fontnook free? Do I need to download anything?
Yes, it's free, and there's nothing to download or install. Type your text, pick a style, and copy it. It works in your browser on phones and computers.
How do I copy and paste the styled text?
Tap or click the style you like to copy it, then paste it wherever you want to use it. On a phone, long-press in the text box and choose Paste.
Will the styled text work on Instagram, Discord, TikTok and WhatsApp?
In most cases yes, because the styles are made of standard Unicode characters rather than images or custom fonts. A small number of decorated styles that stack several marks on one letter may look slightly different depending on the app and device.
Can I use it for my bio, username or game name?
Bios, display names, captions, comments and chat nicknames usually work. Many usernames and handles only allow plain letters and numbers, and games like Roblox and Fortnite filter many symbols, so your styled text may be blocked or converted there.
Styling a name? Try the Name Font Generator guide.
Are these real fonts?
No. They're regular Unicode characters that happen to look like different fonts, such as bold, script or bubble letters. That's why you can paste them into apps that don't let you change fonts.
Want to dress up text with symbols and emoji too? Try the Text Decorator or the Number Fonts.
Will fancy text hurt my searchability?
It can. Styled letters are different characters from normal ones, so a search for plain text usually won't match them. Keep important words like your name or keywords in regular text if you want people to find you.
Something looks off
Why do I see boxes or question marks instead of letters?
Your device or app doesn't have a font that includes that character. Nothing is broken. Try a different style, or check the text in another app. Boxes can also appear after posting if the platform changes or drops characters it doesn't support.
Privacy and saving
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted or stored. Favorites and recently used styles are saved on your own device, and they contain only style names, never your text. More in our privacy policy.
Do favorites sync between my devices?
Not currently. Favorites and recently used styles are stored locally in your browser, so they won't appear on a different device or browser.
Accessibility
Are these styles accessible to screen readers?
Generally no. Screen readers are built around standard letters, and many styled Unicode characters are read incorrectly or skipped. Avoid using styled text anywhere accessibility is important, and keep key info in plain text.
